Practicalities of the Maxi Micro Scooter

Our Maxi Micro Scooter has proved invaluable through three children

Not only has it proved sturdy, reliable and weatherproof, our Maxi Micro Scooter has been used as our car/buggy replacement for several years too.

The design (with three wheels) makes it much easier to manoevre than its two-wheeled equivalents, especially for the younger end of the target market. The other huge benefit for me, is the fact that I can so easily pull this scooter along without having to bend over or strain to keep it balanced. This makes going out much easier without a buggy/car as for those times when the little one is too tired (or claims to be!) on the way back, you can just pull them.

My youngest daughter is particularly stubborn and won't always let me hold onto the handle directly, so I use the ribbon I attached previously to pull her which is also nearly as easy. The ribbon also helps distinguish it from others in a crowd e.g. at the scooter park at school.

For pulling, the smallest Micro Scooter is just too small; even with the 'official' lead to attach and pull, I found it a real strain on my back. The larger scooters have two wheels and are therefore too difficult to pull, so it is really this model only that it works for and which is my favourite. I would go so far as to say that if you can skip the Micro Scooter stage, then do, as the Maxi Micro isn't significantly taller and will last them a lot longer than the smallest model. The age range 6-12 for the Maxi is, I would suggest, slightly exaggerated with most children I know starting on them at around 4. My youngest is just 3 and has no trouble, although admittedly for slighter children, the smallest model would be easier to manoevre.

The downside of these scooters is their cost. At £99.95 for the standard version they are easily twice the price of most of their competitors, but having had two scooters that weren't from the Micro Scooters family, I know that the price difference is worth it in this case. They don't tend to have many decent promotions, but you can always pick up a great value second hand one on ebay. Because they last so well, there is no compromise in doing this, so you still get all the benefits but at a more reasonable price point!
